The Prince George’s County Government and the Chesapeake Bay Trust announce the fifth year of Prince George’s County Stormwater Stewardship awards made through our partnership to support projects that aid the community while treating and controlling stormwater. The goal of this program is to improve communities, improve water quality in the County’s waterways, and engage County residents in stormwater issues.
This year’s grantees include four municipalities who will use the $644,816 awarded to support stormwater projects to clean and green their community. The Prince George’s Stormwater Stewardship awardees and their projects descriptions are as follows:
- Town of Capitol Heights will implement a “green street” on Chamber Avenue that will include pilot stormwater practices which will serve as an example of implementing green infrastructure for roadway improvements and other “grey” infrastructure efforts in the Town.
- Town of Edmonston will implement green streets on Ingraham Street between 46th Avenue and Lafayette Street, further demonstrating green infrastructure efforts in the Town and including an industrial pilot for future replication.
- City of District Heights will implement a bioretention project adjacent to the walking trail on District Heights Parkway on Rochelle Avenue. The design for this project was funded by an earlier Prince George’s Stormwater Stewardship award.
- City of Mount Rainier will design and implement bioretention stormwater retrofit projects in City right-of-ways to reduce stormwater runoff, improve safety, beautify the community, and improve water quality in the Anacostia River Watershed.
