Creative Conservation: A Celebration of Art and Nature

Local Artists Leave Their Mark on the Shared Canvas of Conservation

Understanding the intersection of art, nature, community, and wellbeing, Creative Conservation on November 20, 2025 was a celebration of local artists whose pieces uplift our natural resources and communities.

Thank you to the 49 artists who shared their unique talents to visualize what makes our region so special. From students to scientists to award-winning painters, every piece of pottery, photography, printmaking and painting on display told a story about our local natural resources, and the communities who call the Chesapeake, Coastal Bays, and Youghiogheny watersheds home.

The night mirrored the Chesapeake Bay Trust’s mission. From restoring shorelines and wildlife habitats to installing rain gardens and community murals, we bring people together and support their ideas for environmental projects for their own communities, inspiring lifelong stewards for sustained change. Making our shared canvas of conservation possible are our incredible partners, generous donors, and every Maryland driver who chooses the “Protect the Chesapeake & Coastal Bays” license plate (commonly referred to as the Bay Plate).

Thank You!

These talented, local artists made this inspiring evening possible! Thank you for using your creativity to make waves for conservation. You’re work helps to paint a brighter future for us all.

A special thanks to the Maryland Federation of Art for their support, too!

Introducing “Bay Plate Blue”

More than just a pretty plate, every Bay Plate helps the Bay Trust empower more everyday people to restore nature in their communities.

Inspired by its impact, locally-owned McCormick Paints created “Bay Plate Blue,” transforming the predominant blue color in the license plate design into an eco-friendly paint for any indoor, exterior, or other paint-related project. “Bay Plate Blue” extends this color beyond the car bumper to celebrate conservation and our local waters in a new way.

As part of its commitment to sustainability, McCormick Paints offers a wide selection of MPI, LEED v4, and GREEN WISE® certified paints to support environmentally responsible projects across the Mid-Atlantic. For individuals looking to incorporate “Bay Plate Blue” into their paint projects, this color can be selected in many of these green certified products—providing both eco-conscious options and a meaningful way to celebrate our waterways

“Bay Plate Blue” can be ordered from your local McCormick Paints store or online. The “Protect the Chesapeake and Coastal Bays” license plate can be purchased for $25 through an MDOT MVA branch, car dealerships, tag and title agencies, and online at bayplate.org.
