Make a Gift in Memory of a Loved One

Your Support in Memory of a Loved One Restores our Natural Resources and Strengthens Communities

Do you wish to honor the life and legacy of a loved one with a gift in their memory? The Chesapeake Bay Trust gratefully and humbly accepts memorial gifts, and we take this honor very seriously.

100% of your gift in memory of a friend or family member will help communities come together to restore waterways, protect wildlife habitat, and foster a lifelong love of the outdoors. Your gift is a meaningful way to remember and celebrate your loved one’s life and love for the Bay.

We will notify the family members you designate with a notification of your gift, as well as share their loved one’s name in our Annual Report.

When you make an online donation, you have the option to cover some or all of the processing fees—up to 8%—to ensure your full intended contribution supports our mission.

Memorial Funds

Designating the Chesapeake Bay Trust to receive donations “in lieu of flowers” is one meaningful way to honor the spirit and character of a loved one, while improving the lives of others.

We take this responsibility very seriously and will communicate with family members about the donors making thoughtful gifts in their loved ones’ memory.

If you would like to set up a tribute in memory of a loved one, please contact the Development Team at dgrimes@cbtrust.org to share your plans and to provide the name of the person to be notified of gifts. Please include the following text in the obituary: “In lieu of flowers, please remember (name) with a memorial gift to the Chesapeake Bay Trust at 108 Severn Avenue, Annapolis, MD, 21403, or at www.cbtrust.org/gift-in-memory.”

Learn More About the Trust

The Chesapeake Bay Trust shares a bold vision for a restored and protected Chesapeake Bay watershed and other natural resources in our area—from the Coastal Bays to the Chesapeake to the Youghiogheny River.  We uniquely empower local community-based groups on the ground with the resources they need to take on a meaningful and measurable role in restoring forests, streams, rivers, bays, wildlife, and more in their own communities.

The Trust empowers these groups by providing grants and technical assistance. Every year, about 400 groups are awarded project money or provided other assistance to accomplish environmental education, community outreach, and local watershed restoration projects. Since 1985, the Trust has awarded $140 million in grants and engaged hundreds of thousands of resident stewards in projects that have a measurable impact.

The Trust has received the highest rating from Charity Navigator for over two decades: on average 90 percent of the Trust’s expenditures are directed to its restoration and education programs.
