District of Columbia Urban Agriculture
Small Grant Program

The Chesapeake Bay Trust and the District of Columbia Department of Energy and Environment Office of Urban Agriculture is excited to announce the District of Columbia Urban Agriculture Small Grant Program. The goals of this Request for Applications (RFA) are to support increased operations of food production and distribution at urban farms and to advance strategies to support the success of agriculture businesses for socially disadvantaged farmers. Food and nutrition education remains an integral component of an informed farm operation and contributes to healthy communities. This grant program seeks to provide funding to building capacity for crop production and distribution, and to increase knowledge within farmers and District residents through agricultural education experiences.

What this funds: Projects that increase food crop production, processing and/or distribution at an urban farm, improve distribution and access to fresh foods for residents of District Ward 5, 7, & 8, construct facilities that enable agricultural education experiences for District residents, accelerate the business and production capacity for socially disadvantaged farmers, and/or advance sustainable agricultural efforts in the District. Who can apply: The funding partners welcome requests from non-profit organizations, small businesses, schools and universities, government agencies located within the District. See the RFA for full list of eligible applicants.

How much can be awarded: Up to $10,000.

Is match required? In-kind and Cash match is not required but can be included, if necessary, to accomplish project goals.

Grant Application Process: The Chesapeake Bay Trust’s grant applications are all submitted through an online system, using the “New Grant” button to the right.
